If you have been reading any of my blog posts over the last 5 or 6 years you’ll already know that I try to create awareness for the common person on the street to a variety of health issues and concerns.
On numerous occasions I’ve covered the environmental affects that massive toilet paper production has on our environment.
But in this post I want to focus more closely to home…
And in fact on your health concerns…
Did you read my blog post on the health problems with wet wipes? See HERE if you didn’t.
Or the health concerns of colored toilet paper? See HERE if you didn’t.
Well, because I received so many emails from people saying “ok, we accept wet wipes and colored toilet paper could have negative effects on our health – but we use white toilet paper” – I thought I should update these two posts with this addition.
So are you ready?
Is White Toilet Paper Safe To Use?
Yes, there is a problem with white paper…
Not all white toilet papers are the same of course, but..
You might not know, but white toilet paper can also be bad for your health.
Not just your wallet and the environment…
Two very dangerous ingredients are contained in almost all toilet papers – chlorine and formaldehyde.
The massive toilet paper manufacturers don’t want you to know they use chlorine to bleach their nasty toilet paper.
And this chemical releases dangerous toxins that can cause a range of health issues.
Ok, some people think that being a gas, this chemical is likely to “quickly disperse and not remain contained in the toilet paper.” (Majerovich, et al., 2010)
Do you really want to play Russian Roulette with your family’s health?
No, I didn’t think so…
The other dangerous ingredient is formaldehyde, and with its reactive agents “is used in the paper industry to improve the wet-strength and other “valued” characteristics of paper and paper products.”
This chemical is found to cause irritation and is also listed as a cancer-causing agent.

Here are some of the possible health consequences of using toilet paper:
Rectal issues from toilet paper
Toilet paper can also cause inflammation and itching in the rectal area, or the anus. Another issue with toilet paper, is the fact that it makes you unable to notice any changes in your stool or urine. It is highly advised to pay attention to your stool and check if there’s any blood in it because traces of blood in stool are the most common signs of colon cancer, and the use of toilet paper can hinder the early discovery of this disease.
Fungal infections from toilet paper
One of the first questions that gynecologists ask their patients in case of fungal infections is whether they use extra white toilet paper. In fact, experts have found that there is a strong link between fungal infections and the use of ultra-bleached toilet paper.
Cervical cancer from toilet paper
This type of paper has a direct impact on the female reproductive system and its use can increase the risk of developing cervical cancer.
Environmental pollution from toilet paper
As we said before, the use of bleach in toilet paper contaminates the environment. A big reduction in the use of toilet paper is a small but very significant step to preserving our environment.
Infection of the urethra from toilet paper
Toilet paper with excessive bleach, can irritate the vaginal area and lead to infections of the urethra. Other ingredients contained in paper that can cause skin irritation, itching, or even an allergic reaction include “aloe or lotion, alcohol, phosphate, chlorine, peroxides,…and anti-bacterial properties” as well as formaldehyde and its reactive agents. (Wong, 2013)
